She is the author of The Magician's Elephant, a New York Times bestseller; The Tale of Despereaux, a 2004 Newbery Medal winner; Flora & Ulysses, a 2014 Newbery Medal winner; Because of Winn-Dixie, a Newbery Honor book; Raymie Nightingale, a 2016 National Book Award Finalist, and many others. She lives in Minneapolis.
