and Anakin Skywalker's pursuit of old enemy Viceroy Gunray leads the pair deep into interstellar space, to some well-drawn if unappetizing planets, in James Luceno's jaunty Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil. While the author does a good job of maintaining excitement without revealing any secrets of the forthcoming final Star Wars movie, this tie-in, unlike some other Star Wars novels, has no features to give it interest apart from its link to the popular film series. No longer a Padawan apprentice, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker accompanies Obi-Wan on a galaxywide search for the mysterious Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, in an attempt to put an end to his evil schemes. As Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's emergency powers grant him a stronger hold over the political reins of the Republic, the Separatists, led by former Jedi Count Dooku, look to the Sith for support. Anakin and Obi-Wan weave their way through a tangle of intrigue and battles only to find that each clue leads to another. Luceno (Star Wars: Cloak of Deception) crafts a tale of adventure and derring-do that bridges the time line between the events of George Lucas's films, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (scheduled for release May 2005). Spot-on characterizations of familiar series characters and a genuine feel for the space opera genre make this a strong addition to the series and a demand purchase for most libraries.
