Mark S Whiteley is an internationally recognised expert in venous surgery and venous conditions - venous leg ulcers, varicose veins, pelvic congestion syndrome, thread veins (spider veins) and aesthetic veins (face, forehead, arms, breasts and hands). He trained in St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London and has been a lecturer in surgery at Oxford University. Mark introduced endovenous surgery to the UK, performing the first case in the country on the 12th March 1999. He was the first in the world to perform 1,000 cases. He set up The Whiteley Clinic - now called "Whiteley Clinics" as a centre of excellence for venous surgery and research. He is also a visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, through which much of his research is performed. In 2001, Mark and Judy Holdstock invented the TRLOP technique for ablating perforator veins. Mark is invited to speak on venous surgery all around the world. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed research papers, written several chapters in specialist books and has won multiple international and national prizes for venous surgery and research. Mark founded The College of Phlebology (the study of veins) in 2011 as well as The Leg Ulcer Charity in the same year. Mark has a passion for teaching and is now writing books to help the public, medical and nursing students as well as doctors and nurses understand venous disease better. Using simple descriptions and many line diagrams, Mark makes quite complex medical conditions and treatments much easier to understand.
Reading this book will transform the way in which we approach
venous leg ulcer care. No one should have a venous leg ulcer and
not be given the opportunity to have it treated correctly with
endovenous surgery, with a view to it healing permanently. This
book will make anyone with a venous leg ulcer who has not been
offered this cure ask one question .... Why? - Susan Ostler RGN,
Lead ulcer specialist nurse, Whiteley Clinics.5 out of 5 stars -
Simple but Comprehensive
This booklet is as good for Professionals involved with Venous Ulcer Care as those suffering from it. Very well written in simple to understand English. Those who suffer from Venous Ulcers should also buy and read to fully understand their condition and help make their lives better.

I work as a Nurse in a Community leg Ulcer clinic and as stated by the author I certainly did find this book 'shocking'.
I was shocked at my lack of knowledge regarding procedures to 'cure' venous leg ulcers as opposed to attempting to 'heal' them as I do on a daily basis.
I found the book well written, easy to follow and extremely interesting.
I plan to discuss its contents at my next staff meeting.
My thanks go to the author.
