The beloved poet Maya Angelou (1928–2014) was, among
other things, a novelist, playwright, actress, dancer, and civil
rights activist.
Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) was born in
Brooklyn, New York, of Haitian and Puerto Rican parents. His first
artistic expressions were created and enjoyed as urban street art.
