Of particular interest [in] that there have been few studies of villages with a resident gentry family... also important because there have been few local studies for the early sixteenth century, due to the paucity of sources. Oestmann portrays a genuine community among the Lestranges and their tenants, showing that it is unwise to ignore the gentry when studying small communities... a solid piece of work.
