About the Author

Robert Bagley is Professor of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. His recent publications include the chapter on Shang archaeology in the Cambridge History of Ancient China and articles on Chinese bronzes, the origin of the Chinese writing system, and ancient Chinese music theory.
