About the Author

Bernie Francis, DLitt, working with Doug Smith, developed a new orthography of the Mi'kmaw language, officially recognized by the Mi'kmaw chiefs of Nova Scotia. With Trudy Sable (Saint Mary's University), he published The Language of This Land, Mi'kma'ki (CBU Press 2012). John Hewson, Professor Emeritus, Memorial University of Newfoundland, is a scholar of national and international reputation in several branches of linguistics, complemented by more than 14 books, 140-plus published papers and reviews, and nearly 100 papers to learned societies.
