Avijit Banerjee qualified in dentistry at Guy's Dental Hospital in 1993. After a range of clinical hospital jobs in maxillofacial surgery and obtaining his FDS RCS (Eng) (1996), he returned to Guy's as a Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellow completing his MSc in Tissue Biology (UCL, 1996) and then his PhD in Cariology (1998). On completion of his clinical restorative specialist training, he is currently Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, as well as Head of Pre-clinical Conservative Dentistry at the Dental Institute. In the past decade, he has supervised 4 PhD and 13 MSc students. He has published extensively in the fields of cariology, operative dentistry and dental biomaterials and has accrued more than GBP700,000 research grant income. He holds a visiting Chair in Restorative Dentistry, Oman Dental College, Oman and is the primary author of Pickard's Manual of Operative Dentistry - 9th edition, a definitive international text in the field. He also holds external undergraduate and postgraduate MSc / PhD examinerships in Malta, Brunei and Oman, as well as in Sheffield and Newcastle, within the UK. He is currently the honorary secretary of the British Association of Teachers in Conservative Dentistry and is on the editorial panel of Dental Update. Brian Millar, BDS, FDSRCS, PhD, ILTM, is Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the King's College London Dental Institute at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospitals, London, UK, and Specialist in Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry, King's Healthcare. Professor Millar is also Head of Distance Learning in Dentistry and Programme Director for MClinDent (Prosthodontics) by distance learning at the King's College London Dental Institute. Professor Millar has a background in NHS and private practice and has since held university and hospital posts. He has gained over 25 years experience in hospital restorative dentistry, particularly the management of tooth wear, TMD dysfunction, aesthetic dentistry and the application of adhesive concepts. Professor Millar teaches clinical dentistry, primarily within the fields of prosthodontics and operative dentistry, to undergraduates and postgraduates, vocational trainees and dentists on accredited continuing professional development courses. He has taught clinical techniques throughout the UK and internationally. Professor Millar is examiner for BDS, LDS and IQE. Professor Miller's research includes many aspects of clinical practice and he is lead clinician in longitudinal trials on porcelain veneers, composite restorations and ceramic inserts. He is an experienced teacher to undergraduates and postgraduates and well-known provider of continuing development courses for dentists in the UK.
