About the Author

Gil Johnson is a former primary teacher, advisory teacher and school inspector. Shehas wide experience in early literacy development and a special interest in the development of writing.She has contributed articles to publications such as Language Matters and the Times EducationalSupplement, and was a member of the government working party (the Dearing group) on the firstrevisions to the National Curriculum in English in 1994.
