William Papas (1927-2000) was a much loved and highly successful children's author-illustrator, runner up on several occasions for the Kate Greenaway award, which also honoured him for his lifetime achievement. Remembered also as a renowned cartoonist in the nation's newpapers, his unique, energetic and colourful style reflects his love of life, people, and countries he knew. His books, including the glorious Tasso, are unmistakeable, and his fables remain as relevant today as ever.
