Kelley Roark grew up in the plains of Colorado, 20 miles south of Fort Collins, and spent many happy hours of her childhood exploring the mountains of Northern Colorado. She travelled northern New Mexico with her family, and her last road trip with her father was to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, accompanied by her three-year old daughter, after which the three retreated to a small cabin, which her father had built at age 80 in the dry mountains above Fort Garland. Kelley's travels have led her to live up and down the eastern seaboard, landing in Miami, where she has practiced law for over 20 years, punctuated by three years in Costa Rica, where she hopes to live again after her daughter graduates high school. She has written travel books and other nonfiction, and is now working on a book that is inspired by the genesis of this very unexpected project.
