Heidi Damman was born and raised in Melbourne, she has been interested in art from a young age. She travelled Australia in her early twenties which inspired a love of the natural Australian environment. She has since continued to travel in Australia and overseas, enjoying visiting national parks and camping. After having her three children she decided to pursue a career in early childhood education. She loves being able to make a difference in a child's life and give them opportunities to learn and grow. She found on so many occasions children who didn't know our Australian animals. They would call a cockatoo or a magpie a kookaburra or a duck. Children who called an emu a flamingo. It was not surprising considering the vast majority of books available to children are of animals from around the world with the classic bears, elephants, tigers and farm animals. The combination of these interests inspired her to make this book series.
