About the Author

Sandra C. Paivio, PhD, CPsych, is a professor in the psychology department and director of the Psychotherapy Research Centre at the University of Winsor, and has more than twenty years of clinical experience. She is one of the developers of emotion-focused therapy, particularly applied to complex trauma (EFTT), and has conducted clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of EFTT. She is author of numerous publications on trauma and psychotherapy, including co-author of Working With Emotions in Psychotherapy and author of Emotion-Focused Therapy for Complex Trauma.

Dr Paivio has presented at numerous international workshops and provided intensive training in EFTT for graduate students and professionals. She also is an invited member of the APA Division 56 (Division of Trauma Psychology) working group developing best practice guidelines for complex trauma, and received a Lifetime-Achievement Award (2014) from the Traumatic Stress Section of the Canadian Psychological Association.

Lynne Angus, PhD, CPsych, is a professor of psychology at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is a past president of the Society for Psychotherapy Research and has delivered keynote addresses and workshops in Australia, England, Finland, Portugal and the United States. Her psychotherapy research interests include understanding the contributions of narrative and emotion processes to treatment of depression, anxiety and complex trauma.

She has authored and co-authored 70 research articles and three books over the course of her academic career, including the Handbook of Narrative and Psychotherapy (Angus & McLeod Editors). Dr. Angus' most recent book, Working With Narrative in Emotion-Focused Therapy: Changing Stories, Healing Lives (2011) was co-authored with Leslie Greenberg.

Additional research interests include the development of practitioner-researcher network in Canada for the facilitation of effective practice-informed research strategies, productive therapeutic relationships and enhanced treatment outcomes. Dr. Angus also maintains an active part time private practice in Toronto and is a clinical supervisor at the York University Psychology Clinic.
