About the Author

James Appel, MD is a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine class of 2000 and the Ventura County Medical Center Family Practice Residency class of 2003. Since January 2004 he has been working in the Republic of Tchad in a variety of clinical settings. In August-September 2014, Dr. Appel worked at the SDA Cooper Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia at the height of the Ebola epidemic. He is married Sarah Andersen, a Danish nurse he met in Tchad. They have three surviving children: Miriam, Noah and Isak.
