Jerry N. McDonald is a biogeographer who has specialized in the study of large mammals of the Quaternary, including human beings. Much of his work on bison was completed as a doctoral dissertation at the University of California, Los Angeles, in the 1970s. Subsequent work, largely while a research associate in the National Museum of Natural History, has been done on muskoxen, deer, ground sloths, giant beavers, and the presence of early humans in eastern North America.
