Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (1776—1822) was a German author, artist, and composer who is best remembered for his story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice."
"Each Christmas brings a new retelling of this favorite holiday story, and this year's is one of the best. The book comes with a CD narrated by Claire Bloom and music by Tchaikovsky. Schulman has made the traditional tale new once more. The frightful seven-headed Mouse King leads an attack against the toy army commanded by the Nutcracker. For the first time we learn that the mice and the Nutcracker are enemies because of an ancient mouse curse. The drawings, based on 19th Century German art, are warmly done in holiday colors of red, gold and green."--"California Kids! Family Fun Guide, 9/99"
