Joseph Marshall III was born in the Rosebud (Sicangu Lakota) Indian Reservation in what is now south-central South Dakota. Marshall has published numerous articles and books, including The Dance House: Stories from Rosebud and Winter of the Holy Iron.
History and poetry blend together in these pages. I can think of no
collection of essays that I've enjoyed more in recent years. This
is a book that all who love the West, who are concerned about the
natural world, who believe in truth and the sacredness of all life
need to read. It will move them and it will give them courage. --
