Ch. Elschenbroich earned his Ph.D. with E. O. Fischer at Munich in 1966. After two years of post-doctoral study in Israel (1967-68, Weizmann Institute, Technion), he joined Metallgesellschaft AG (Frankfurt, 1969-70) to work on surface-chemical aspects of corrosion protection. During 1971-75 he did research at the University of Basel, Switzerland, dealing with applications of EPR spectroscopy to organometallic chemistry. This led to the "habilitation" in 1975. In the same year he moved to Marburg as a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. He was visiting Professor at Zürich University (1981), Brookhaven National Laboratory (1986) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (1994).
"The wealth of information contained herein makes it an excellent
reference work. (...) We have in 'Organometallics' a cemprehensive
and reasonably-priced book that illustrates the synthesis and
properties of an enormous range of organyls and complex compounds,
and it is highly recommended for advanced students for whom these
areas hold a significant attraction."

"Organized by introduction, maingroup and transition-metal
organometallic compunds in 18 chapters, Organometallics offers a
well-designed and proven textbook for advanced undergraduate and
graduate students, and for professionals."
Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Darstellung. ... Die leichte Anwendbarkeit und der außerordentliche
Nutzen werden Studenten und Dozenten überzeugen." Chemistry in
Britain
... Jedem Dozenten oder Studenten der
Organometallchemie uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen." Angewandte Chemie
International Edition
"Hervorragend in Breite und Tiefe der Darstellung. Man merkt sehr
deutlich, wie spannend das Gebiet der Organometall-Synthesechemie
ist." Journal of the American Chemical Society
