Reviews

"pleasant and interesting, and young readers and listeners will enjoy the details in the accessible text and the humorous, deftly drawn illustrations."—Kirkus Reviews

"To commemorate the triumphal progress that Washington made, in 1789, from Mount Vernon to New York City for his presidential inauguration, Adler and O’Brien highlight some of the incidents and ceremonies along the way. . . . this account is as much a celebration of our brand-new country as of its greatest citizen." —Booklist

"Adler chronicles the journey of George Washington as he traveled from Mount Vernon, VA, to New York City for his inauguration as the first president of the United States. . . .  O’Brien’s watercolor and ink illustrations showcase period details of architecture, transportation, and clothing."—School Library Journal

"O’Brien’s ink and watercolor artwork glories in minute details and offers a hint of what contemporaries might have shared through carefully curated etched images . . . Listeners may cultivate their own assessment of Washington himself, but for now they will have lots of fun comparing the 2021 Inauguration with the country’s first."—Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
