Winner of the 1998 The Australian/Vogel Award
Jennifer Kremmer was born in 1965, the second of five girls and a
boy in the frontiers of suburbia in Sydney's south-west. She went
to six different schools,including a boys' school that was going
co-ed.
In 1984 Jennifer started studying architecture in Sydney. As far as
she could tell, she was the only student from the west of Glebe.
She says of this time 'I knew nothing about anything and kept my
mouth shut. A few years ago one of my odd jobs was to pin academic
gowns onto the same graduating class as I'd initially started
among'. After deferring Architecture, Jennifer went nursing.'This
was in the days when nursing was learned in the ward. Nothing
prepared me for questions related to death'.
After quitting nursing Jennifer enrolled in a BA (Media Studies) in
Newcastle. At about the same time she began writing fiction,
including performance poetry.
Jennifer graduated this year with an MA (Writing) from the
University of Technology Sydney and has supported herse
