Reviews

My first thought when opening Pregnant Bitch: A Cookbook was "Where the hell was Aria when I was pregnant?" Aria's hilarious, brilliant, and no-bullshit sensibilities come to life in this memoir-meets-cookbook. Her ability to weave the story of her pregnancy through the framework of a beautiful and necessary cookbook is simply a "bonus gift" for the reader. Although the types of food she cooks vary dramatically from trimester to trimester, the result is a comprehensive cookbook with ideas for healthy and delicious breakfasts, menus for entertaining, desserts, and core recipes that you'll return to again and again. How lucky are we to meet a storyteller who also whips up delicious recipes like Indian Mango Lassis, Almond Muffins with Dark Chocolate and Espresso Streusel, and a Mediterranean Menu that had me running to the grocery store to plan my next dinner party? It is often said that every idea has already been done, but this cookbook is one of a kind. It's the one you'll pick up when you are looking for a little inspiration from a friend whose thoughts are honest, witty, and helpful all at the same time. -Amanda Haas, Cookbook Author, Cooking Instructor, and Founder of amandahaascooks.com No one knows cravings like pregnant women know cravings, but you don't have to be pregnant to appreciate Aria Alpert Adjani's visceral, sensual and hilarious take on the food we all desire. Whether you're cravings change with the trimester or the season, this book presents an entirely new way to think about what to cook. Merritt Watts, Creative Content Director at William SonomaDespite its namesake, Aria Alpert Adjani has created a debut cookbook that we non-breeding bitches salivate for as much as any expectant Mum. Every consideration in PB is curated with tastebuds in mind, and it shows. Underneath that breezy wit is a thoughtful and sophisticated foodie, for whom cooking is clearly an avocation-if not a therapeutic art form. Listen folks, not much delights me in these strange times, but I can say that Arias book has me nodding, drooling, and making new shopping lists. I may not be pregnant but if it looks like I am, it's probably because I made every delectable recipe in Pregnant Bitch- and ate it myself. - Mirran Raphaely, Co-Founder Beyond BrandsDon't let the title of this book throw you. Although pregnancy was the genesis for this collection of tasty accessible recipes, it is the charmingly raw unbridled voice of Aria that makes it so compelling. The book is divided into four main menu chapters but also pretty much sums up the spirit of the author: salty, spicy, bitter, and sweet. (Anyone who follows her on Instagram will know what I am talking about). - Sarah Lonsdale, Co-Founder Remondelista and Creative Director at Clé TileJust exactly what this post menopausal grandmother needed for my cycles of hunger! The organic and incredibly clever way Aria has organized her gorgeous cookbook around pregnancy trimesters of appetite speaks to our need to nourish ourselves at any age and stage of life. Beautiful illustrations accompany Adjani's wisdom in funny and moving passages throughout her scrumptious recipes. - Alison Anders, Filmmaker and Writer
