About the Author

Thomas Misco is a professor of social studies education at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. He earned his bachelor's degree in history and geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in social studies education at the University of Iowa. He has conducted research in China, Guam, Japan, Latvia, Romania, South Korea, and Taiwan. Misco received Miami University's Distinguished Scholar Award and a Fulbright Senior Specialist Fellowship. He has also published an edited book titled Cross-Cultural Case Studies of Teaching Controversial Issues. Aaron M. Gilkison first studied Chinese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, after which he translated for the U.S. Army for three years. For the past nine years he has worked as a professional freelance Chinese translator. He holds an M.A. in History focused on China and has taught classes and workshops on translation and history in China and the USA.
