Julia Beckett is an associate professor in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies at the University of Akron. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art and archaeology and a Juris Doctorate degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She earned a Master of Public Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver. She teaches courses in public law, public organization theory, public budgeting, and urban policy in the masters and doctoral programs in public administration and urban studies at the University of Akron. Her research interests include public law, public administration and budget history, and emergency management. She coedited an American Society for Public Administration Classics volume on public law. She has contributed chapters to scholarly books on public law, legal research, budget theory, intergovernmental relations, and public bureaucracy. She has published journal articles in The American Review of Public Administration, Journal of Public Policy and Analysis, Public Management and Social Policy, Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management, and Journal of Public Administration Education.
