This an excellent addition to scholarship on Japanese Buddism. The Middle Way, Journal of the Buddhist Society Rennyo and the Roots of Modern Japanese Buddhism makes an excellent contribution to Rennyo and Shinshu studies in English, adding necessary complexity to the existing literature.
