The Standard of Ur is one of the most famous objects to be discovered from ancient Mesopotamia. It was un earthed in a tomb in 1927 by Leonard Woolley during his archaeological excavations of the 'Royal Cemetery' of Ur located in present - day Iraq. This beautifully illustrated short introduction tells the story of discovery and significance of this splendid object.
Sarah Collins is the curator responsible for the Early Mesopotamia collections (from prehistory to c.1500 BC). She has excavated extensively including in Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
