About the Author

Denise Kemp-Wilson was born in Nassau, Bahamas on February 15th, 1964. She attended Palmdale Primary and Woods Rodgers Primary schools. She is a 1980 graduate of Queen's College High School, Nassau, Bahamas. After high school she worked as a Customs Officer and attended The College of the Bahamas as a part-time student and then transferred to the University of Nebraska, where she completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in December 1990. Upon her return to the Bahamas she transferred from the Customs Department to the Ministry of Finance, Department of Information Technology, where she worked as a Computer Operator. While at the Ministry of Finance she was seconded to the Parliamentary Registration Department to facilitate the Voters Registration Automation process. Then, Denise transferred to the Ministry of Transport in 1992 as an Assistant Accountant and was posted in the Maritime Affairs Office in London, England. She returned to the Bahamas in late 1993, got married in 1994 and moved to Grand Bahama to join her husband. Since the Ministry of Transport did not have an office in Grand Bahama, she transferred to the Department of the Auditor General as an Accounting and Audit Officer. Denise left the Public Service in 1996 to enter the private sector. In 1997 she joined The College of the Bahamas as the Assistant Director of Student Services at the Northern Campus where she remained until 1999. In 2000 she completed a Diploma in Secondary Education (Teacher's Certification) at The College of the Bahamas. After attaining this qualification Denise accepted the post of Computer Studies Teacher at Bishop Michael Eldon School for one year, and then she accepted a teaching post in the Bahamas Government's public school system where she remained for ten (10) years. In 2005, she enrolled in a Master of Business Administration Degree with Amberton University, Texas, and graduated in June 2007. As a lifelong learner, Denise is presently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with the University of London. She is employed at the Ministry for Grand Bahama in the Customer Services Unit as an Assistant Manager. Denise is community service minded, having served in several community activities and currently volunteers in the media/sound department of her local church. She is the proud mother of one daughter and enjoys singing, reading, writing, track and field, tennis and soccer.
