John DeRuntz resides in Tigard, Oregon where he lives with his wonderful wife, Maggie. They also share their home with two cats, pretty little Pepper, and Rudy, a mischievous white flame point Siamese. In addition to writing, John also enjoys composing, and performing, classical, romantic and impressionistic piano music. His passion for the keyboard even brought him the distinction of being invited to perform in the May, 2011 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. John has recorded fifty of his piano works on four CD albums, Soaring, Fantasia, Reverie and Encore. He seems to have been blessed at birth with creative not only in music, but mathematical physics as well. As he likes to tell people, both of these endeavors are studies in space and time, and somehow, they complement one another. John began his multi-faceted career teaching Physics as an Assistant Professor at the University of California in Berkeley beginning in 1964. He later became a Senior Staff Scientist at the Lockheed Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, California. He is a retired, award winning mathematician, scientist and professor who received the Baron medal in 2007 for his innovative work in the field of computational dynamics for interacting media.
