About the Author

JOSEPH PATRICK COSGROVE was born in 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts and was educated at Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois and Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California. Joe was a broadcaster on WCOP (ABC), Boston, MA, staff announcer on KPOL AM/FM, Los Angeles, GM and Founder of KTHO radio, South Lake Tahoe, CA, and a GM at KMIR (NBC-TV) Palm Springs. While at KPOL, he was featured numerous times in the LA Times Calendar section as one of the most innovative and highly rated personalities of the day. Being on KPOL opened the door to the Disney Movie studio and an invitation from Disney to join Club 33 as it opened behind the green door in Disneyland in 1967 Over a period of three decades, Joe was involved in creating TV commercials with the LA Rams, LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, S.F. Forty-niners and the Dallas Cowboys. Joe produced videos on thoroughbred racing and college baseball training. He has produced TV commercials for major Southern California auto dealers and national TV commercials featuring Bill Cosby, Ricardo Mantalban, Karl Mauldin, Robert Conrad, Juliet Prowse and James Whitmore, to mention but a few. In 1964, Joe worked closely with Ronald Reagan for Senator Barry Goldwater's campaign during the California Primary for the Republican Presidential Nomination. He served as Regional Manager, for the California Manufacturers Association which represented business in Sacramento, California. Joe wrote, produced and directed a half hour video featuring Governor Ronald W. Reagan and Speaker Jesse Unruh which dramatically increased membership and revenue for CMA. As an executive with three NYSE Fortune 500 Companies: Harvey Aluminum, Martin Marietta and General Automation he was responsible for all corporate communications. Joe was director of corporate communications and marketing for the Owl Companies, Irvine where he created a Day With Sugar Ray and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Sugar Ray Youth Foundation with the help of Bob Hope, John Wayne, Glenn Campbell, Dry Martini and many other notable headliners. Joe produced and directed Jack LaLanne's first fitness video "The Jack LaLanne Way" and created Jack's first media kit. He produced Jack's Big Swim For Fitness which made headlines around the world when Jack celebrated his 70th birthday by towing 70 boats with 70 people on board with his hands and feet shackled while 50 television crews from around the nation and world covered the event.
