About the Author

Meir Bar-Ilan (born: NY 1951), is a professor of Jewish Studies at Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel, from 1981. He was educated at Bar-Ilan University (B.A. cum laude, 1979; Ph.D. 1983), at the Hebrew University (post doc, 1983) and at Harvard University (post doc, 1989). Bar-Ilan specializes in the Jewish literature and people in Antiquity (Bible and Talmud), and teaches on various subjects. He published more than 100 learned papers and few books. He taught at the Vienna University (guest professor, 2001), and was the head of the Talmud department at Bar-Ilan University (2008-9). Bar-Ilan has a deep Jewish education on the one hand and a strong academic training on the other. His researches are related to: Bible, Pseudepigrapha, Talmud, Jewish liturgy, Jewish Society in Antiquity (women, demography, infant mortality, childhood, age at marriage) literacy, Mystics, Magic, Medicine, Astronomy, Jewish Calendar, Astrology, Mathematics, Numerology and more.
