Gr 2-3-More suited to browsing than to assignment use, these quick surveys prize visual appeal over factual content. Chomp! and Sting! are likely to be the most popular of the titles, as their themes have an immediacy of appeal lacking from the more abstract threats in Phew! and Zap! Furthermore, there is some overlap in the creatures covered (bees and jellyfish, for instance, appear in more than one volume), and the series inclusion criteria are stretched beyond recognition by the presence of cacti in Poke! Still, toothy photos of sharks, or one of a saltwater crocodile leaping over half its body length out of the water, can't fail to cause young pulses to race.
