Parisian musician/graphic designer Marc Nguyen Tan offers his own take on the retro post-punk sound so ubiquitous in the early 2000s, but unlike many of his peers, he comes at it with a more electronic-oriented sound. Mixing classic, analog-style synth riffs with craftily repetitive, lo-fi beats, and atmospheric-but-funky bass lines, the man known as Colder erects a perfect approximation of the "cold wave" sound so beloved by DJs and those nostalgic for the '80s. He's not just tipping his hat to any one band's style though; AGAIN jumps all over the early-'80s map. One moment vintage New Order is the rule of the day, the next you could swear you're hearing early outtakes from PIL or A Certain Ratio. Like those groups, Colder manages to craft a moody soundtrack for gray, rainy days, while still keeping the beat strong enough to let listeners dance their blues down to the ground.
