THE BEATLES TAPES I: IN THE NORTHWEST is a collection of interviews, press conferences, radio promos, news footage and on-stage introductions from the Beatles' first North American tour in 1964. Included are radio interviews with Canadian DJ Red Robinson conducted in Vancouver in 1964 and Seattle in 1966.

Excerpts from interviews and introductions done with the Beatles in Vancouver in 1964 and in Seattle in 1966 by well-known and influential Northwest DJ Red Robinson are interspersed here with live concert introductions and interviews by members of the Canadian press corps. As with many mid-'60s press confrontations with pop idols, the effect is of explorers discovering a brand-new species -- the fun lies in observing tables being subtly and not so subtly turned.
