Performer Notes

This collection covers only Eartha Kitt's tenure at Kapp Records, in the late '50s and early '60s. While this may seem a narrow focus considering Kitt's five decades-plus career, most fans consider Kitt's Kapp years to be her artistic high point. Certainly THE BEST OF EARTHA KITT contains Miss Kitt's three most well-known songs, "C'Est Si Bon," "Santa Baby" and the career-defining "I Want To Be Evil." The other 13 songs include some nearly as definitive, like a slinky "My Heart Belongs To Daddy," the dramatic "Shango" and a quirky revision of "Mack the Knife." Kitt's interest in non-traditional music is represented by the proto-world music of "Uska Dara" and "Sholem." There are many Eartha Kitt anthologies, but this is one of the most completely satisfying.
