The beauty of Vic Damone's records lies in his emotional intuition; he has the actor's flair for conveying emotion and the musician's knack with dynamics in rhythm and volume. A gorgeous, full, deep tone, with its near operatic bravado, marks many of his finest performances, such as "Lost in the Stars." His fame came via romantic ballads, of which this CD contains prime, mid-1950s examples, as well as through radio and musicals, so it isn't surprising to find him tackling a bevy of great Broadway and Hollywood hits.
"On the Street Where You Live," from the much-loved "My Fair Lady," was a big hit for the singer. His strong voice is equally emotionally engaging on the three standards from "West Side Story," where he proves that belting out a song can have sweet and tender results. His vocal vitality and dramatic prowess renders these songs the aural equivalents of the movies in which they appeared.
