With a sound incorporating elements of crust punk, noise rock, doom, and sludge metal, Baptists create an eclectic blend bound together by one common thread: absolutely crushing the listener. On Bloodmines, Baptists' second full-length outing, the Canadian quartet delivers an album of anguished aggression that feels masterfully focused despite drawing from so many influences. It would be easy for a sound like this to get out of control, but the band manages to keep things on course, delivering an album of cathartic and powerful metal that feels like an exercise in controlled chaos. ~ Gregory Heaney
