Iconic German outfit Faust, one of the founders of Krautrock, has maintained a legacy since their emergence in the early 1970s. Unlike a lot of their prog rock brethren, however, Faust has managed to stay cutting edge and relevant in the remaining decades, even as their influence has made its way into ambient music, electronica, and all facets of experimental rock in the 21st century. C'EST COM.COMPLIQUE, released in 2009, proves Faust (now down to two of its original members) is still making music that matters. The band's fascination with metronomic rhythms, effects-laden guitars, and textural elements still holds, yet there is a new complexity in these pieces that reveals itself with repeated listens. These layers express a sonic range that stretches from the dreamy to the violent.
