The debut album from the symphonic but muscular act Epicurean utilizes the best traits from the entire anatomy of metal to find a style that's uniquely their own. Epic journeys in song like "The Author and the Architect" will remind the listener of acts as diverse as Queensryche or Iron Maiden before gut-punch guitar and roaring vocals place Epicurean firmly in metal's more extreme realms. While the elegantly placed keyboards and soaring choruses add atmosphere and drama, the foundation of heaviness on which Epicurean's sound is built is indisputable. Skilled and imaginative, Epicurean have built their own cathedral on the metal landscape.
