While Country Joe & the Fish are a band difficult to define in a one-disc best-of collection: their lone hit "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin-to-Die Rag" plays mostly as a dated novelty and belies the depth of the rest of their recorded output. But VANGUARD VISIONARIES does so admirably, including the aforementioned jam and many of their other notable "hits." While there are no tracks that a consumer cannot get elsewhere, VANGUARD VISIONARIES is a good place to find some stand-out tracks in one convenient place.
