  • Almost three decades after co-forming the Gun Club, and two-plus decades after wielding a seductive blues guitar for Nick Cave, Kid Congo Powers is still mining the world of warped garage rock on DRACULA BOOTS. Mixing up covers from Latino legends like Thee Midniters (the dementedly lo-fi "I Found A Peanut") and originals such as the more straightforwardly proto-punk "Rare As The Yeti," Congo keeps his persona cool and detached via affected vocals while immersing Stones-meets-Stooges riffs in layers of minimalist psychedelics. DRACULA is fittingly titled, as Congo's flare for intelligent weirdness seems immortal.
