  • Feast of the Blood Monsters is Dance Club Massacre's debut album. It was originally self-released and picked up by Metal Blade for their Black Market Activities imprint. The 2007 reissue has been remixed, remastered and is presented with "better" artwork. The band plays a post-hardcore brand of thrash and math rock with (literally) indecipherable lyrics. It's a wonderful thing to have them printed in the booklet. Why? Not because they're profound, but because they're hilarious. Check these in "Devon Butler's Dying Wishes": "I remember you and I used to be inseparable/Kind of Like Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler in that one movie/What happened?/ Where's the buzz I used to get from drinking you?/Look into my eyes/Look at what you've done to me/I liked you when you were sexy/Now you've gone from Miss Liz to Sapphire...Flame throwers and machine guns can't keep me down cause I'm Balushi (sic) and you're Carrie Fisher/Now do you feel somewhat cool? Now that you're Princess Leia." Not your typical metal band lyrics -- though most of them are far more misogynist than this. Add to this their Hammer Films horror aesthetic with faux harpsichords and drawn-out "Seasons of Wither" guitar intros and when the tune explodes, so will you! "Murder Comes with Smiles" has some genuine horror flick screaming in the beginning, but Nick Seger's vocals don't sound much different. Jake Thomas' keyboards give this band some of its edge and differentiate them from their many peers Thomas understands dynamics and offers intros and outros and even interludes once in awhile that make these tunes better than the average thrash. Feast of the Blood Monsters is funny, somewhat adventurous musically, and seriously damaged. ~ Thom Jurek
