This collection of timeless John Coltrane tracks is taken from sessions that took place around 1959 and 1960, some of which resulted in his epochal GIANT STEPS album. "Naima" (written for his first wife) is one of the saxophonist's most tender, enduring themes, with a melody that floats above Tommy Flanagan's serene chords, while "Harmonique" has an intriguing, polyphonic theme, and on "Giant Steps" Coltrane's torrent of interconnecting ideas is almost unstoppable.
