Performer Notes
  • Silkworm: Andy Cohen (acoustic & electric guitars); Tim Midgett (acoustic guitar, bass); Michael Dahlquist (drums).
  • Additional personnel: Brett Grossman (piano, organ).
  • Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios, Chicago, Illinois.
  • Silkworm had its origins in the not-quite rock & roll hotbed of Missoula, Montana in 1991. Although the band relocated to the Pacific Northwest early on in its career, nine years and six full-lengths later there's still the unmistakable and welcome air of the dusty plains and of somber remoteness hanging over the indie-rock on LIFESTYLE. It's what distinguishes it from the bevy of bands who descended on Seattle in the early '90s.
  • Like Idahoans Built To Spill, Silkworm's songs meander, varying just enough in style to intrigue while telling a definitive story. Also like Built To Spill, Silkworm has subtly redefined its parameters on every album. The lyrics have lost much of the pretension of the band's earlier work, while Silkworm itself has reached that hallowed point where it can produce hummable pop songs without sacrificing ingenuity, inventiveness or integrity. "Treat the New Guy Right" stands as the best example of this balance, an undeniably infectious, intelligent tune. With LIFESTYLE, Silkworm consolidates its reputation as a purveyor of learned, unfailing indie-rock.
Professional Reviews
Alternative Press (11/00, p.129) - 3 out of 5 - "...The tracks are bashed out with so much intensity....exploding with unbridled power that most rock bands only dream of achieving..."

CMJ (8/7/00, p.34) - "...Another set of strong songs....Bluesy and unrestrained..."
