Performer Notes
  • Personnel: Burl Ives (vocals, guitar).
  • A deceptively packaged 16 song collection, ultra-budget priced and with the right song line-up, but that's the best that can be said for it. Seemingly drawn from television, judging from the sound, it features Ives in front of some kind of live audience, doing songs like the title tune as well as "Blue Tail Fly," "Big Rock Candy Mountain," "Green Grass of Home," "Billy Brown" etc. The cheat is that he's got strings and a chorus accompanying him, and this is obviously a very late appearance, because Ives's singing isn't terribly good or strong. That said, it is a handy if virtually non-essential addendum to his best work, highlighted by his occasional comments around the songs. ~ Bruce Eder
