  • The honey-voiced 1940s and '50s-era big band singer Kitty Kallen gets her due on this extensive best-of, performing contemporary hits like "Besame Mucho," "I'm Beginning to See the Light," and "I'll Buy That Dream." This entertaining set is also a chance to sample the work of Kallen's employers, including Harry James, Artie Shaw, Jack Teagarden, and Jimmy Dorsey, who led some of the most popular outfits of the swing era, and whose arrangements on songs like "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" and "The Wonder of You" are shining examples of the genre at its brassy best.
