Logical Revelations, released in early 2012, compiles a cross-section of songs from two of Uriah Heep' late-'90s studio albums, 1995's Sea of Light and 1998's Sonic Origami. The band's sound didn't change dramatically between their early-'70s beginnings and the time of these recordings. Even incremental developments like the fantasy-scaping synthesizers that introduce "Universal Wheels" or the '80s metal-influenced shuffle of "I Hear Voices" seem like they would have fit in nicely on earlier works. For the most part, the band's sound in centered around lead singer Bernie Shaw's vocal acrobatics and the group's soaring harmony choruses. Guitarist/vocalist Mick Box (the band's only consistent member since their formation in 1969) is in the driver's seat on most of these tracks, co-writing eight of the ten tunes and adding layers of mystical guitar solos to the already epic songs. Logical Revelations is padded by five live tracks from a 1994 show in Germany, solid renditions of some of the best-known hits from the band's early catalog including "The Wizard," "Look at Yourself," and perhaps the band's most-loved number, "Easy Living." ~ Fred Thomas
