Carbon Leaf: Carter Gravatt (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin); Terry Clarke (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Jordan Medas (vocals, harmonium, upright bass, electric bass); Barry Privett (vocals).
Carbon Leaf--Richmond, Virginia's popular hometown heroes--play a crisp, muscular brand of rock that exists somewhere on the continuum between jam-band and arena-rock: their playing is very tight, as befitting a group that's been touring relentlessly since the early 1990s, and their upbeat tunes swirl, jangle, and shimmer. Like fellow Virginian Dave Matthews, lead singer Barry Privett emotes earnestly, and excellent vocal harmony (every member of the band sings) is a secret weapon they deploy on almost every song here, from the rueful title track to the gorgeous power ballad "Block of Wood."
