British trio Mis-Teeq scored the perfect summer dance hit in 2004 with the sexy and powerfully catchy "Scandalous," a bass-driven club anthem featuring just the right splash of 1980s-era funk. That song fittingly opens the group's self-titled US debut, a collection of energetic dance-soul tracks culled from the outfit's two UK records. The quick-paced, insistent tenor of the album rarely lets up, even on the smooth ballad "Home Tonight," as hooks abound.
The three members of Mis-Teeq--Alesha, Sabrina, and Su-Elise--trade off vocals that shift effortlessly from commanding raps to sultry croons with the greatest of ease, while wisps of their British accents waft in and out to seductive effect. The music backing the threesome is a rather unique blend of club-ready house tracks and '80s funk (the sort practiced by Klymaxx and Starpoint), an extremely alluring mix that works wonderfully for a thoroughly enjoyable stateside bow.
