New York quartet Gutbucket brought a decade's worth of experience to the fore in making A MODEST PROPOSAL, and it shows. Sax vies with guitar throughout for dominance as the instrumental compositions toss prog rock at its most angular (think RED-era King Crimson) up against alt-rock and avant-jazz. It might be tempting to lump them in with the post-rock crowd, if not for the unusual amount of cohesion and direction (not to mention energy) they display here.
