Performer Notes

Kingston-born Beres Hammond is a singer of unparalleled abilities whose mid `70s recordings with the group Zap Pow upheld the sweet, soul-derived group-harmony sound of early reggae and rocksteady artists like Alton Ellis and John Holt. Over the course of his career, Hammond has worked with some of Jamaica's most talented producers, including Herman "Chin" Loy, Joe Gibbs, and Tappa Zukie, and though Hammond has only infrequently filled the role of producer himself, his self-produced 2008 effort, A MOMENT IN TIME, finds his studio chops well honed. Standout cuts such as "I Feel Good" and "No Goodbye" effortlessly recapture the warm, horn-saturated sound of the classic rocksteady recordings of the late `60s.
