  • It's clear from the outset that contemporary country duo Montgomery Gentry aligns itself with some impressive people. Former NRBQ mainman Al Anderson is credited as both guitarist and (on the amiably shuffling "Why Do I Feel Like Running," and engineering duties are handled by none other than legendary George Jones producer Billy Sherrill. That kind of commitment to quality and nod to tradition is reflected in many of the songs on MY TOWN. Despite the politically correct climate so prevalent in 2002 on country radio, MY TOWN never shies away from tales of bad men, hard drinking, and plain old orneriness. And while much of the production has a contemporary sheen, there's no denying the roadhouse roots of many of these tunes, a few of which offer a demonstrable taste for good ol' blues rock (see the Greg Allman/Dickey Betts composition that closes things out).
